Brown Street Condominium Historic Preservation & Underpinning

Project Description:

The project involve in “Historic Preservation” of existing house structure in the Mount Pleasant neighborhood of Washington DC. Evaluation of the existing building’s structure was the first step in transforming this historical preserved building (wood structure) into six new luxurious apartments, while keeping its exterior intact. An additional new three story building was connected to the existing structure in the rear. The challenge of obtaining the maximum of living space out of the existing crawl space was achieved by underpinning the existing exterior walls foundations using a sequential method. Our challenge and goal was to maintain the structural integrity of the existing historic structure.
