Project Description

The Montgomery College Swimming Pool Roof Repair project is a prime example of SNG Engineering, Inc. to design within budget. The resulting design was not only cost effective, but allocated the resources in the best way possible to meet the design goals of the project. The project came about when a heavy snow storm placed over 2 feet of wet snow on the roof of the swimming pool at the Germantown Campus. This load caused several of the 100’ glue-lam beams to fault. SNG was called and responded to the emergency situation. We were able to immediately design a temporary support structure to prevent the roof from collapsing. Once in place, with the roof stabilized the College requested proposals from several leading engineering companies on the permanent repair design. Our proposal won the bid and was $1,700,000 less expensive to build. The project from the design phase to the construction completion phase took over two years. We were able to meet all design phase goals and construction progress goals as construction manager. During the project SNG Engineering was responsible for the following disciplines: Design, Cost estimating, manufacturer selection and facility inspection, permitting, construction management, weekly design and construction meetings, weekly progress reporting, and welding/steel/material inspections. All of our staff had responsibilities on this project. Our administrative staff was challenged to keep up with daily request for information, tracking material manufacturing progress, communicating with all subcontractors, and keeping the client up to the minute. We were able to financially manage the needs of the project which demanded the hiring of an additional engineer and full time inspector.
